SKEA's Art of Learning program takes the arts to the public schools.
In recent years many
schools have stopped hiring art and music teachers, so it is especially important
to bring artists to the classroom. SKEA arranges for "teaching artists" to
come to the school and teach lessons in the arts, or work with you to
plan lessons that teach something about the arts and also address a topic in
science, language arts, math, or social studies.
See our artists in action in the classroom.
View and/or download the arts and
arts-integrated units that have already been taught in Kona's schools. As a teacher
you can request to have these units taught or you can suggest another topic and work
with the AOL Program Director and a teaching artist to make it happen.
The Request Form for the 2007-08 school year is now available.
This program is supported in part by the
State Foundation on Culture
and the Arts through appropriations from the Hawaii State Legislature
and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Funding for the Art of Learning program also comes from
the McInerny Foundation.
