| SKEA presents Aloha Quilters Show Fire and Ice
Saturday, February 18, 9 am to 5 pm through Sunday, February 19, 10 am through 3:30 pm
Come to South Kona and walk through a forest of Native and Canoe trees! Not real trees, but Trees of Hawaii, that were created through the imagination and creativity of the women of the Aloha Quilters. The third SKEA Quilt Show is featuring a display of fabric trees hanging from the rafters to entice viewers and lovers of the fiber arts. Twenty original quilts representing eleven different trees of importance to the earliest inhabitants of the island have been crafted by eighteen artists. Each hanging is six feet tall and two feet wide.
This year’s show, Fire And Ice, provides a showcase for quilters from all over the island. Quilters are represented from many of the island’s quilt clubs and guilds.
A special display will be an exhibit of self-portrait quilts that were made in 2011 during a workshop with acclaimed teacher, Esterita Austin. Other exhibits feature quilts hand appliqued by well-known designer Cathy Van Bruggen, and quilts that were made to express the show theme “Fire and Ice”.
Contemporary as well as traditional Hawaiian quilts will be on display. Traditional piecing, old and original designs and techniques will inspire and thrill you. The quilts range in size from bed quilts to small art pieces. There is even an animated quilt!
Quilt Passions, Fabric Gift Shoppe and Discount Fabric Warehouse will be in the vendors’ mall. They will feature the latest in fabrics, books, notions, patterns and Hawaiian crafts to help you plan the project inspired by all of the quilts and fiber art you will see.
